Dear friends,

Bem vindo a Moçambique! It’s a pleasure to welcome you here.

For more than 20 years, the Aga Khan Development Network has been engaged in Mozambique. Aga Khan Foundation has been critical to the Network’s programming in the north of the country, one of the poorest regions not only in Mozambique, but in the world.

Alongside local partners, AKF works to improve quality of life in the province of Cabo Delgado. We encourage communities to be actively involved and build their knowledge through our programming, as a way of ensuring our investments in areas such as health and education are sustainable over the long term.

COVID-19, which has plagued the entire world, has also brought challenges to Mozambique – particularly for the most vulnerable communities. As a way of contributing to the pandemic response, AKF has supported the government of Cabo Delgado in providing personal protective equipment for health workers, and hygiene and sanitation tools for health centres and communities in rural areas. We have also promoted public health awareness campaigns.

We are gradually resuming life and adapting to the new reality, without losing focus on our commitment to improving quality of life.

Thank you for the support you have given us on this journey.

AKF anchors the Network’s programming in Cabo Delgado, the poorest province in the country.

The next generation
of nursing

Our investments in the nursing school in Pemba, Mozambique, have helped teachers provide a better education for aspiring nurses – particularly those specializing in maternal and neonatal care. Meet Olga, a recent graduate, as she embarks on the first chapter in a career dedicated to saving the lives of women and their babies.

Fiaz Basaria

"I volunteer because I feel connected to breaking the cycle of poverty. In 2011, I travelled to remote areas of Mozambique to see how funds raised by Canadians through the World Partnership Walk translated into sustainable projects that eliminate the roots of poverty. Talking to and seeing for myself how people from villages and communities transformed their lives was an incredible motivation for me, and validated that we are doing great things through the Walk from so many thousands of miles away."
